Teachers 'caught in a web' as glitch hits Samarth portal
India, May 16 -- LUCKNOW Prof Taj Mohammad, 62, who is set to retire on June 30, has been busy searching for his personal, educational and professional documents for the last few weeks, after losing track of many papers with the passage of time. He is among several teachers across UP, struggling to upload the information on the Samarth portal, as per a government order.
A GO in October last year mandates submission of documents by faculty members at government and aided colleges for the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). But a letter issued in Janaury 2025 made it mandatory for all faculty members to upload their documents on the portal.
The last date for submission of papers, as per a notice issued by the director (higher education) on April 17, was May 15. But a large chunk of 15,000 teachers across UP (of which 500 are superannuated) continued to face issues due to glitches slowing down the Samarth portal even as the deadline expired on Thursday. Director (higher education) Amit Bharadwaj said: "A huge number of teachers has not completed the process of uploading their information on the Samarth portal. Keeping in view the problem of our learned friends, we are thinking about extending the date, which we might announce on Friday."
The Samarth portal is a digital platform developed to streamline various educational processes. It is designed to provide a centralised platform for students, teachers, and administrators to access information related to admissions, examinations, results, and other academic activities. Lucknow University Associated Colleges Association (LUACTA) president Manoj Pandey said this is the third portal brought by the government to gather information of teachers at various associated and government colleges.
"In 2020, we were required to submit the information on the ABACUS portal of the UP government. In 2021, we were again asked to submit all the information on the Manavsampada portal. All state government employees, apart from teachers in higher education institutions, continue to get their salary, pension and leave related details on the Manavsampada portal, but we are struggling to upload the information for the third time on the Samarth portal. Teachers were initially asked to upload details after a training provided by the regional higher education director. But no such training was imparted for this purpose," he said.
Providing details about problems faced by teachers while uploading documents on the portal, LUACTA general secretary Anshu Kedia said the website continues to face server issues. "We are required to submit various details like date of enrollment in PhD, data of timetable, exam duties assigned and discharged, project and dissertation works done under a faculty and document of marriage, etc. The portal by default takes information of a semester from July 1, which did not begin at various universities for the last few years," said Kedia emphasizing that the task would have been easier if the portal was linked with the Manavsampada portal.
"We have brought these issues to the notice of higher authorities. If no action is taken to streamline the process, teachers will organise an agitation," added Pandey.
"Teachers are required to submit information like names of all research scholars and students who did their research/dissertation under them and a list of all research papers published by them. We demand that the last date of document submission on the portal be extended by a month at least," said UP Teachers' Association president Maulendu Mishra.
"The teachers have been tossing between exams, classes and the portal for days, and some of them are still not able to complete the process," said Diwaker Yadav, a law faculty at Shri Jai Narain PG College....
