PRAYAGRAJ, June 2 -- A teacher at an online education platform was allegedly duped of Rs.60 lakh on the pretext of investing in the share market for high profits in a short time, police said. The victim, Manvendra Singh, a resident of Lalganj tehsil in Manpur village of Rae Bareli district, currently lives in the George Town locality of Prayagraj. In a complaint filed at the George Town police station, Singh stated that he received investment offers through two websites and three different mobile numbers, promising quick returns. Tempted by the offers, Singh said he sold his father's land to invest. He also borrowed money from his family and relatives. In total, he invested approximately Rs.60 lakh between November 2024 and May this year but received no returns. He said he suffered extreme mental stress and even attempted suicide. When his family members became aware of the situation, they took him to the cyber crime police station on May 28.
