Barmer/Jalore, Oct. 14 -- A government school teacher has been detained for allegedly attacking former Congress minister Govindram Meghwal's vehicle and assaulting his driver after a minor collision on Sunday evening, police officers said on Monday. According to police, the accused, Rajendra Singh, a resident of Mudi village and posted at the Government Higher Secondary School, Bishangarh, became furious when Meghwal's vehicle slightly brushed his car. Enraged, he overtook the minister's convoy on Bagoda Road, blocked the vehicle, and began beating the driver. He also tried to attack the former minister, punching the side window near Meghwal's seat before fleeing the scene. Meghwal, who was in Jalore to attend a party meeting, was returning to his hotel when the incident occurred. On witnessing the assault, he called Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh. Realizing that the car belonged to a former minister, the accused immediately fled. Meghwal, later alleged that the teacher appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The minister's driver recorded photos and videos of the assailant's car and shared them with the police. Acting swiftly, police detained Rajendra Singh and booked him under preventive sections for disturbing peace, though no formal FIR has been registered. Station House Officer (SHO)Arvind Kumar said, "There was no serious attack; it was merely an argument over a side collision during overtaking." Police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
