SVU raids at multiple locations linked to DSP
PATNA, Aug. 9 -- Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) sleuths on Friday raided three premises linked to 1994-batch sub-inspector Sanjeev Kumar, now promoted as Dy SP and posted at Jehanabad (HQ), officials said.
According to officials, the DSP owns Nectar Hospital in Khagaria and runs a flourishing goods transport business in his wife's name. His movable and immovable assets are estimated to be at least 300% more than his known sources of income.
During the raids, the SVU found a four-storey building at Ram Nagri in Patna, a hospital in Khagaria, a current account in ICICI Bank, agricultural land in Begusarai worth Rs.23.50 lakh, a plot in Khagaria worth Rs.20 lakh, another in Samastipur worth Rs.11 lakh, multiple bank accounts in SBI, PNB, Bank of India and IDBI, and jewellery valued at Rs.38 lakh, the SVU said in a press release.
The searches began at 7 am after the SVU registered an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and various sections of the BNS, and obtained a warrant from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna on Thursday. The DSP is accused of possessing assets worth Rs.1.52 crore beyond his known sources of income.
In Khagaria, raids started around 8 am at Nectar Hospital, a multi-storey building owned by the DSP and rented to a private operator. Patients were reportedly receiving treatment when a team of around 10 SVU officers arrived in multiple vehicles. In Jehanabad, a team of 10-15 officers searched his official residence at Gandhi Maidan, with police personnel posted outside. Another SVU unit reached his palatial Ashiana Road house in Patna at 7.30 am to begin proceedings.
