LUCKNOW, Sept. 11 -- The police has confirmed that a suspicion of an illicit affair was the motive for the murder in Madiaon on Tuesday. The accused, Manoj Pandey, 39, a private security guard, was arrested on Wednesday with the licensed firearm used in the killing, said police. On September 9, Arun Kumar Mishra, 68, a resident of Dilkush Vihar, Puraniya, was shot dead at close range. His nephew, Nitin Mishra, lodged an FIR at the Madiaon police station, alleging that Pandey, the husband of the family's maid, had committed the crime. During interrogation, police said, Pandey confessed to killing Mishra after becoming convinced that his wife was in a relationship with the deceased. "The motive was jealousy and suspicion over his wife's alleged affair with the victim," read a Lucknow police press note.
