Suspense continues over Oppn INDIA bloc's seat negotiations
PATNA, Oct. 12 -- The suspense over the seat-sharing arrangement in the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar continued on Saturday with several rounds of meetings held separately by RJD, Congress, and left partners, people aware of the details said.
They attributed the delay to lack of consensus between the Congress, RJD, the Vikasheel Insaan Party ( VIP), and left parties on seat allotments, keeping the winnability factor in mind.
"There is a likelihood the seat sharing deal would be announced on October 13. There are still some hitch on a few seats and number of seat allotments among RJD and other allies including VIP, left and Congress. Some allies want more seats than they have been offered in the ongoing talks" a senior INDIA bloc leader said requesting anonymity.
State Congress chief Rajesh Ram said the seat-sharing talks have progressed positively. "When there are new partners in any coalition, it takes time for a seat sharing deal. We have resolved most of the issues on seat distribution among allies. An announcement may be done by October 13 or even before that."
RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who was scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Saturday, is now likely to arrive in national capital on Sunday along with party patriarch Lalu Prasad and former CM Rabri Devi.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the senior INDIA bloc partner in the Jharkhand government, demanded the partners in Bihar to decide on the seat-sharing formula for the Bihar before October 15, saying the party would be free to take a decision on contesting the polls after that, a JMM leader said.
The JMM leader underlined that the party is eying around 12 seats to contest in Bihar, saying it was in a similar proportion to what the RJD was allocated in Jharkhand polls last year....
