Suspended muda chief arrested in illegal land allotment case
Bengaluru, Sept. 18 -- The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday night arrested former Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) commissioner GT Dinesh Kumar in connection with a site allotment case that has dogged the Karnataka government for more than a year.
Kumar, who took charge of MUDA in 2022, was suspended in September last year after widespread criticism of the government's handling of the case. He had been transferred from MUDA in July, shortly after revelations that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi Siddaramaiah, had received 14 sites under the authority's 50:50 scheme. This led to the appointment of a technical committee, whose report later served as the basis for Kumar's suspension.
Investigators allege that Kumar oversaw large-scale irregularities during his tenure as MUDA commissioner, including the illegal allotment of sites in exchange for bribes and other benefits.
