Meerut, July 11 -- A suspended lekhpal from Hapur died early Thursday after consuming poison. He had been under suspension since June 6 over allegations of demanding a Rs200 bribe in Dhaulana tehsil. The incident has triggered protests by revenue staff, who allege unfair treatment. Officials said the suspension followed a June 3 complaint made at a public meeting chaired by Hapur DM Abhishek Pandey. Based on villagers' statements, the lekhpal was suspended and served a charge sheet. According to colleagues, Meena consumed poison at his residence on Wednesday.
