PRAYAGRAJ, July 7 -- One of the key suspects who was recently arrested after she allegedly abducted a 15-year-old girl from Phulpur and took her to Kerala for a forced religious conversion may have visited Kerala several times before, police suspected. Police were now investigating whether Daraksha Bano, 19, one of the two suspects arrested in the case, targeted other teenage girls as well. According to sources, her travel records, mobile location, and call details suggested that she had visited Kerala previously as well. On May 8, the minor girl from Phoolpur area in Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly lured by Bano and her aide Mohammed Kaif, who took the girl on a motorcycle to the Prayagraj railway station. From there, she was first taken to Delhi, and then to Thrissur in Kerala. Once in Kerala, the teenager was allegedly introduced to members of a terror network. According to police, she was forcibly converted and then pushed into being recruited for terrorist activities. Despite being coerced into "joining jihadi activities", the 15-year-old managed to escape from those holding her captive and reached Thrissur railway station. With the assistance of local police, she contacted her mother, who had filed a missing person's complaint at the Phulpur police station. Police officers had already expressed apprehension that this case could be related to a well-planned network that targeted poor young girls. DCP (Trans Ganga) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, however, said presently there was no concrete information about how many times Bano visited Kerala. Meanwhile, a five-member team of Prayagraj police reached Thrissur and started their investigation. As per sources, the police team contacted Kerala Police and was making efforts to locate the hostel where the teenager was kept. On Saturday, the police team examJined the CCTV footage of the day of the incident. The police team is also expected to meet the members of Thrissur Child Welfare Committee.
