Suspect arrested from Lalitpur
Kanpur/Jhansi, June 10 -- A suspect in the alleged high-profile murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya was arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur on Sunday night, police officials said.
A Meghalaya police team took a 21-year-old man, identified as Akash Rajput, into custody after a raid on his ancestral house at Chauki village under the Mehroni police station limits in Lalitpur, officials said.Akash's cousin Rajendra Singh and uncle Naresh Singh were also picked up for questioning but released later.
Superintendent of police, Lalitpur, Mohammad Mushtaq said, "One youth has been taken from Chauki village under Mehroni police station limits in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case."
Akash was subsequently taken to Meghalaya for further investigation.
Confirming the arrest, additional SP Lalitpur Kaloo Singh said a Meghalaya Police team had approached them in this connection and the local police had provided assistance.
According to investigating officers, Akash, along with two alleged accomplices, identified as Anand Kumar and Vicky alias Vishal Chauhan from Indore, allegedly travelled to Meghalaya and carried out a fatal attack on Raja Raghuvanshi using a sharp-edged weapon.
Akash and his cousin Rajendra were reportedly studying in Indore and had returned to their native village on Sunday evening. "They arrived at their ancestral house around 8 pm from Indore. Barely three hours later, the police came and picked them up," police officials familiar with the matter said.Akash's grandmother, who appeared visibly distressed, said, "He did not say a word after coming (back). I have three sons, and Akash's family has been living in Indore for a long time. Phans gaya hai (he's been trapped)."
People familiar with the case revealed that Akash Rajput had been residing with his family in Indore for the past few years. He had returned to his native village to attend a wedding at Naiguwan when Shillong Police, acting on intelligence, tracked him down.
Akash was reportedly close to Raj Kushwaha, the alleged lover of Sonam Raghuvanshi and a key conspirator in the murder. Akash is pursuing MBA in Indore.
After Akash's arrest from Chauki village, the Lalitpur police escorted the Meghalaya police team safely across the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border, citing security protocols....
