Sultanpur teacher in I-T net for tax scam worth crores
Ayodhya, July 16 -- Income Tax (I-T) officials on Tuesday raided the residence of a government school teacher who allegedly ran an syndicate that helped other teachers evade taxes, in Sultanpur's Jaisinghpur, official sources said.
The raid on the house of Ram Janam Yadav, who's the principal of a government primary school in the area, lasted for about eight hours, during which officials interrogated Yadav and seized documents associated with filing fake returns amounting to crores of rupees.
Officials said Yadav had fixed a percentage cut from tax payments of hundreds of teachers, resulting in the embezzlement of crores of rupees.
"We will take necessary action after we receive instructions from higher authorities," said Upendra Gupta, the basic education officer ( BSA) in Sultanpur.
Sources said, a team from Lucknow, led by an assistant commissioner-level officer, conducted the raid. Evidence regarding the filing of fake returns was found in Yadav's email ID. They added that the teacher also donated to political parties....
