Sugarcane mills set to begin work for this yr's winter crushing season
Haridwar, Oct. 28 -- The state's sugar mills are set to begin this year's winter crushing season from November's first week, mill management officials said on Monday.
According to the managers of millls in Libberhedi and Laksar , due preparations are being put in place to ensure crushing season begins as early as mandated.
"We are geared up to start the new crushing season, with the boiler worshipping ritual already complete.All other modalities and logistics are being put in place for the new crushing season,"said Libberhedi sugar mill manager Anil Singh.
"We had received directives from sugarcane department officials of starting the new crushing season from first week of November for which we are geared up.Seasonal workers employed for crushing season are also being called on to ensure maximum workforce is available when crushing season begins in first week of next month,"said Laksar sugar mill manager SP Singh.
Meanwhile, the Kisan Union has demanded minimum support price for 2025-26 sugarcane season to be hiked to Rs.500 per quintal. "Heavy rainfall in monsoon season particularly in September has affected sugarcane crops in Haridwar and Dehradun district so government should hike MSP to give Rs.100 per quintal and ensure sugar mills pay farmers within 15 days of the delivery of the crop consignments," said Kisan Union Haridwar unit president Anand Saini....
