Sudden change in weather exposes poor power infra in city
LUCKNOW, May 23 -- Strong winds and heavy rain in the city as in various other parts of the state late on Wednesday night exposed the fragile electricity infrastructure of the state capital, plunging several localities into darkness.
Power outages in these areas lasted many hours even as complaints poured in amid the alleged poor response from electricity department officials.
Meanwhile, chief engineer, Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA), Ravi Agarwal said teams were in field to repair wires, transformers and fix other faults. "All the complaints were addressed by the evening," he claimed.
Power disruptions were caused in various localities, including Alambagh, Rajajipuram, Balaganj, Mal, Banthra, Gosainganj and Rehmankheda, due to falling of trees, underground cable faults and transformer failures.
While electricity supply was restored in some areas within a few hours, other localities remained in the dark for as long as 13 hours -a situation that left many residents angry and helpless.
A significant blackout occurred in Golden City colony under Noorbari substation when a tree collapsed on the ABC power line. In Thakurganj's Ramgram area, an underground cable fault caused power cuts, which had to be temporarily restored using an alternative supply from Gaughat.
Mohanlalganj's Maurawan road saw 13-hour power cut from 10pm on Wednesday till 11 am on Thursday, while residents of Tadikhana endured a 4-hour outage.
A fire on the transformer's LT side in Adarsh Nagar-II (Utrethia substation) added to the chaos, cutting supply for two hours.
Even upmarket areas weren't spared. Chinhat, Deva Road, Gomti Nagar Extension, including Vishwas Khand and Vivek Khand, experienced outages.
What further aggravated public frustration was the alleged lack of response from electricity department officials....
