LAKHIMPUR KHERI, Sept. 12 -- In a clash between two male rhinos in rhino rehabilitation area II (RRA-II) of the Belrayan range of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR), a sub-adult male rhino named Himanshu (5) succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon. According to reports, in RRA-II in Belrayan range, which is home to three male and three female rhinos, two males-Nepolian, around 20 years old, and the sub-adult Himanshu- engaged in a violent clash on Wednesday. The clash left Himanshu with severe injuries, forcing him to flee to safety. When the DTR officials were alerted, a team of experts, including a veterinary doctor, tracked the injured rhino and administered treatment while closely monitoring his movements. Despite receiving timely treatment, the injured rhino could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon. Deputy director of DTR, Jagdish R, confirmed the death of the sub-adult rhino following the conflict with his male rival. Female leopard captured Meanwhile, in the Shardanagar range of the South Kheri forest division, a female leopard along with her two cubs was captured on Wednesday evening. Forest officials had set up a cage in Nakha area of Shardanagar range following reports of leopards roaming in vicinity, which had caused panic among villagers. A former village head, Prakash Chandra, had been injured in a leopard attack a day earlier.
