GORAKHPUR, Aug. 3 -- A Class 5 student was injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster collapsed at the Government Composite Upper Primary School in Bala Par village under the Chargawan block of the Gorakhpur district on Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Vikram, sustained head injuries after debris struck him while he was in the classroom.At the time of the incident, which occurred around 11 am, nearly a dozen students were present in the classroom. School teachers immediately rushed the injured child to Guru Gorakhnath Hospital. He was later referred to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, where his condition is reported to be out of danger. Taking cognizance of the incident, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Ravindra Kumar Singh suspended the school principal, Sunita Agrahari, citing negligence. He stated that student safety is a top priority for the department. Block-level officers from the Basic Education Department have been instructed to shift students to safer buildings. BSA Singh further noted that all head teachers have been strictly directed not to conduct classes in dilapidated buildings. He has also ordered the submission of a list of school buildings in dangerous condition for immediate demolition. According to officials, over 50 primary and upper primary schools across the district are in a dilapidated state, with leaking roofs and structural damage posing serious risks to both students and staff. A senior teacher revealed that the school had already informed education officials about the deteriorating condition of the building - including falling plaster from the balcony and veranda - on June 17.
