Storm of queries brews before CAL AGM today
LUCKNOW, July 26 -- The annual general meeting of the Cricket Association Lucknow on Saturday is set to be a stormy one as at least 40 clubs have unanimously decided to raise a number of questions, including the authenticity of the sporting body, which they feel is 'defunct' as per the registrar of society.
"We have many questions. We are for change in the set up and all 40 clubs have decided to bring many issues on Saturday. We want elections to be held through ballot papers and not by the raising of hands," said Arshi Raza, joint secretary in the CAL and also a candidate for the post of secretary, on Friday.
"If our demands of elections through ballot papers are not met, we will be boycotting the elections process too but only after attending the annual general meeting," he said, adding, "We can think of running our own show in future as we have support of many clubs in the state capital.

He also objected the conversion of CAL into a private limited company. "We want to know that why CAL has been converted into a company."
The AGM on Saturday, which is also due to hold elections almost after 19 years, is scheduled at 3.00 pm at the BBD University, and given the strength of the clubs, supporting the present set of office-bearers, both Navneet Sehgal, a retired IAS, and KM Khan, a businessman, are expected to be re-elected as president and secretary, respectively, for the next four years.
"The elections are being held as per the constitution of the CAL and we are allowed to conduct the polls as per the directives of the registrar of societies. We have invited an observer from the registrar office to monitor the elections," CAL's long-serving secretary, KM Khan said on Friday.
He also said that it's an election of the Cricket Association Lucknow, which is being run under the guidance of a company. "In all, there will be 156 voters, including 34 executive members. First, we will hold the AGM and after that elections will be held," he added.
So far, all three vice-presidents Abhijeet Sarkar, Vinay Mohan and Viraj Sagar Das Gupta have already been elected unopposed along with Abhijeet Sinha as public relations officer of the CAL....
