PRAYAGRAJ, June 4 -- The Prayagraj field unit of UP special task force (STF) on Tuesday arrested a wanted criminal, Sameer, carrying a cash award of Rs 50,000, near Doordarshan Kendra in the Colonelganj police station area of Prayagraj. He was a member of a gang involved in a 2022 dacoity case registered at the Colonelganj police station, according to a communique issued by the UP STF in Lucknow. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), STF Shailesh Pratap Singh, stated that a team led by inspector Jai Prakash Rai received a tip-off about the presence of Sameer, a resident of Sumha Tiwaripur Khurd under Kohdaur police station of Pratapgarh district, near Doordarshan Kendra in Prayagraj. Acting swiftly, the team reached the location and apprehended Sameer as he was attempting to flee the district to evade arrest, he added. According to STF, during interrogation, Sameer confessed to being a member of a gang involved in carrying out loots, dacoities and thefts, led by Shanshah, a resident of his own village. Other members of the gang include Wasid Ali Shebu, Mohammad Saleem, and Shakti Singh, among others. Sameer revealed that on August 16, 2022, Shanshah visited him at his home and informed him about a shop in the Katra market of Prayagraj that dealt in TMT bars or saria used in construction, claiming that the shop held between Rs2 crore and Rs 2.5 crore in cash.
