GORAKHPUR, Feb. 7 -- Anger and tension gripped Khampur and Bhatpar Rani towns in Deoria district on Friday morning after the statue of revered freedom fighter Bhagwat Bhagat was found vandalised by unidentified miscreants. The incident triggered widespread public outrage, with hundreds of residents taking to the streets, staging a road blockade, and demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. According to officials, the statue was inaugurated on January 4, 2004 by then CM Akhilesh Yadav. SHO Khampur Mahendra Chaturvedi said, "The statue was found damaged in the morning. An investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible. Strict action will be taken against the accused."
