Mussoorie, July 28 -- Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has approved a budget of Rs.57.04 lakh for setting up the state's first government-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in the city, officials familiar with the matter said. According to an official privy to the matter, the "District De-addiction Centre" will be established at the Government Old Age Home in Raiwala, Dehradun. The first floor of the old age home will have 13 rooms, bathrooms, one hall, and two office rooms, which will be utilised to set up a 30-bedded de-addiction centre, the official cited above said. After chairing a meeting with officials from the Social Welfare and other relevant departments on Saturday, Bansal said, "It was decided during the meeting to establish the centre at the existing government old age home in Raiwala with the help of a voluntary organisation (NGO), and the officials have been directed to expedite the operationalisation." Emphasising the severe societal impact of drug addiction, Bansal said that the focus is on the need for structured treatment to overcome substance abuse. "Budget of Rs.57.04 lakh has been sanctioned from the Mining Trust Fund, which will cover various essential expenses, including Rs.22.56 lakh for six months' honorarium for 22 approved staff positions as per Government of India guidelines, Rs.9.48 lakh for building maintenance, medicines, electricity and water bills, vehicle expenses, stationery, and food," he said. "Additionally, Rs.25 lakh has been allocated for necessary equipment such as mattresses, furniture, utensils, cupboards, computers, and biometric machines," he added....
