State capital's first commissioner of police promoted to DG
LUCKNOW, Dec. 2 -- Senior IPS officer Sujit Pandey, a 1994-batch officer of the UP cadre, has been promoted from the rank of additional director general (ADG) to that of director general (DG). The promotion came into effect on December 1, 2025.
Pandey, known for his dynamic administrative style, was appointed as the first commissioner of police in Lucknow when the commissionerate system was introduced here. His tenure, though relatively brief, was marked by structural changes within the policing system. He was later transferred, but continued to receive promotions owing to his performance and seniority.
Since June 30, Pandey has been serving as the ADG of the Lucknow Zone. His latest promotion to DG places him among the top-ranking officers in Uttar Pradesh Police, with responsibilities expected to expand in the coming months.
