SSB foils trafficking bid along Indo-Nepal border
LUCKNOW, Dec. 18 -- The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Tuesday foiled a suspected human trafficking attempt 100 metres inside Indian territory near the Indo-Nepal border, in Bahraich district, rescuing a 15-year-old Nepali girl and apprehending a Nepali national, officials said.
The incident occurred on December 16 at around 12.15 pm near Border Pillar No. 651/07 under the jurisdiction of border outpost Rupaidiha, during routine checking and frisking by the SSB Border Intelligence Team and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.
The apprehended man has been identified as Sanu Sunar (18), a resident of Dang district in Nepal. The minor girl belongs to Sidholi district in Nepal and was allegedly being taken towards Lucknow.
Raman Lal, deputy commandant (operations), 42nd Battalion SSB, Bahraich, said, "During routine checking at the check post, our team noticed a minor girl accompanied by a Nepali male. As they failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding their relationship and purpose of travel, they were detained for further questioning, which led to the detection of a human trafficking attempt."
He added, "Verification with the girl's family in Nepal confirmed that they had no knowledge of her travel to India and did not recognise the man accompanying her. Immediate action was taken to ensure the safety of the minor and to hand over the accused to the Nepal Police as per protocol."
A SSB press note read that the minor was placed under the care of Nepal-based NGO Shanti Punarsthapana Grih in the presence of Nepal Police and India-based NGO Dehat India for further rehabilitation and legal proceedings....
