PRAYAGRAJ, July 16 -- In a medical achievement, Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH), associated hospital of Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj, has successfully treated Trigeminal Neuralgia- a condition often dubbed the "Suicide Disease"- using cutting-edge Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) technology for the first time, said officials. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a rare neurological disorder known for causing intense, electric shock-like facial pain, typically on one side of the face. Recently, a 23-year-old woman suffering from this excruciating condition for the past two years approached the hospital's neurosurgery department. Diagnostic tests confirmed Trigeminal Neuralgia, caused by a nerve compression in the brain that leads to unbearable, stabbing facial pain - unresponsive to conventional medications. She was referred to the hospital's Pain Clinic where Dr Abhijeet Mohite, an interventional pain physician, recommended a Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) procedure. Until now, this advanced treatment was limited to select metropolitan centres. Dr Neelam Singh, chief superintendent and head of the department of Anesthesiology, MLNMC said: "Successfully treating a complex and painful condition like Trigeminal Neuralgia in Prayagraj is a milestone." htc...
