Spotlight on student start-ups solving real-life problems
LUCKNOW, Sept. 9 -- While studying and getting a degree is a goal for many in their college days, some students have set a benchmark by creating innovative start-ups that are solving real-world problems. These 'founders' will be felicitated during the convocation ceremony of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University on Tuesday.
From a device meant to provide 360-degree protection from obstacles around a visually impaired person to another detecting harmful gases in a septic chamber, among other innovations, will be introduced to the gathering through a screen at the event.
Some of these innovations are already generating revenue and allowing 'founders' to run a profitable business.
Sarthak Shishodia, 19, a B.Tech 3rd year student at Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology, who will be awarded the 'Accessibility Startup Award', shared that while moving around in a Metro, he found visually impaired people getting troubled even when walking using a stick.
"While a blind stick helps with obstacles in one direction, our pocket-size device provides data from all sides. If an obstacle is anywhere around the person, it will beep and vibrate helping the individual," he said.
The Health Innovation Startup Award will be conferred on Jayanti Tiwari, 20, a B Tech student of UP Textile Technology Institute, Kanpur, who shared that she is working on a post rehabilitation device which will work on all body joints in future. "It was a cushioning pad earlier, but we are converting it into pants for extra comfort for people dealing with hip joint dislocation," said Tiwari.
Mohit, 21, an MCA student of Fort Institute of Technology in Meerut, said: "I have developed a Raksha Kawach device which detects harmful gases along with oxygen levels, alerts of which will be sent on devices used by the worker and supervisor," said Mohit, who will receive the Sustainability Champion Award....
