Spotlight on India's tribal heritage and cultural unity
Lucknow, Nov. 11 -- Celebrating the spirit of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" through the vibrant expressions of India's tribal communities, the Uttar Pradesh government will host the 'Janajati Bhagidari Utsav' from November 13 to 18 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow.
Organised jointly by the department of tourism and culture and social welfare department, the festival coincides with the 150th Birth Anniversary of tribal freedom hero Birsa Munda, and seeks to honour the enduring legacy of India's indigenous cultures.
The week-long celebration will bring together 600 tribal artistes from 18 states, including partner state Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing a kaleidoscope of tribal art, music, dance, handloom, and cuisine.
From traditional folk performances and story-telling sessions to exhibitions of forest produce, crafts, and regional foods, the festival promises to be a living portrait of India's cultural diversity and unity.
Social welfare minister Asim Arun said, "This festival celebrates the pride, progress, and empowerment of our tribal communities. Their traditions and values strengthen the foundation of India's unity. Through this Utsav, we aim to promote their cultural heritage and economic self-reliance, inspiring every citizen to participate in this collective celebration of inclusion and respect."
A highlight of the celebrations will be the grand event in Sonbhadra on November 15, attended by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi joining virtually to address participants and pay tribute to Birsa Munda's contribution to India's tribal identity and freedom movement....
