MEERUT, July 27 -- Harvinder Singh, 63, owner of a sports gear company, died in a factory accident in Meerut's Surajkund area on Saturday evening after his neck reportedly got trapped in an open lift. The incident took place near the showroom inside the factory premises. Workers said Singh was standing close to the lift when it suddenly moved upward, resulting in fatal injuries. He was rushed to a hospital by family members but was declared dead. Police reached the site soon after receiving the information and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Preliminary inquiries raised questions about whether the tragedy occurred due to a mechanical fault in the lift or because of lapses in safety protocols. Police called in lift technicians to inspect the equipment and determine if any negligence was involved. "We are probing all aspects," deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Abhishek Tiwari said. "CCTV footage is being reviewed, and the post-mortem report will be crucial. If negligence is found in maintenance or safety measures, legal action will follow."
