VARANASI, Dec. 7 -- A team led by additional deputy commissioner of police, Gomti Zone, Vaibhav Bangar, conducted a special checking drive on persons residing in shanties in Koirajpur area in Varanasi on Saturday The drive is a part of a 7-day special campaign in Varanasi Commissionerate for verification and identification of Bangladeshi/Rohingya and other suspected hawkers/migrants residing in the city. The campaign was launched in Varanasi on December 4. A senior police officer said that five teams have been formed for verification of 78 people living at two locations under Cantt and Maduadih area of Varanasi. Following the government directives, additional commissioner of police (law and order & headquarters), Varanasi, Shivhari Meena, directed cops to conduct the campaign. ADCP, Gomti Zone, Vaibhav Bangar said that complete details of each person, including their photograph, were recorded in the prescribed form. After the verification, individuals who are residing illegally are being identified. Strict and effective legal action will be ensured against all such individuals as per the rules.
