Speeding truck kills 3, injures 6 in Ballia
VARANASI, June 18 -- Three people died and six were severely injured after being hit by a speeding DCM truck in Narhi area of Ballia district on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday.
The truck, headed to Bharouli, first hit Bittu (24), Manu Gond (19) and Sarvdev Gupta (65) who were passing by on the Sagarpali-Thamhanpura-Bairia road, near Ajorpur. In an attempt to flee, the driver sped up the vehicle, and ran it over Gulshan Kumar (13), Nishant Swaroop (25) and Manu Kumar (19). Three others, Akhilesh Yadav (25), Hriday Narayan Yadav (35) and Ramdulari Devi (30), were also hit when they tried to stop the driver from fleeing after the accident, said reports.
Locals rushed the injured to the hospital where Manu Gond and Gulshan Kumar died while under treatment. Akhilesh Yadav was referred to trauma centre, Varanasi where he, too, succumbed to his injuries, said reports. The remaining injured are being treated at the district hospital, said a senior police officer and added that their condition is stable and they are on the path to recovery.
According to police, the driver, Anuj Upadhyaya, was caught by locals and handed over to the police. The Narhi police took the DCM into custody and arrested the driver.
Superintendent of police, Ballia, Omvir Singh along with a police team reached the hospital to meet the victims and made arrangements for their treatment. htc...
