PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 12 -- A speeding tourist bus ran over a 65-year-old man near Dhanni village under the Sandipan Ghat police station area on Tuesday, dragging him for nearly 100 meters and killing him on the spot, said police. The deceased was identified as Sharda Prasad, a resident of Dhanni village. He was walking along the road around 6 am as part of his daily routine when a tourist bus travelling from Prayagraj to Kanpur hit him near the highway. Parts of the bus reportedly trapped him underneath, leading to his instant death. The incident triggered violent protests from angry villagers and the victim's family, who vandalised the bus and blocked the Prayagraj-Kanpur National Highway for nearly two hours by placing the body on the road. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. This led to massive traffic congestion, resulting in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway. Police teams from Sandeepan Ghat and Kokhraj police stations rushed to the spot and, after nearly two hours, managed to pacify the crowd and restore traffic movement. The tourist bus was reportedly carrying college students on an educational tour. When locals began pelting stones and damaging the vehicle, the accompanying teachers swiftly evacuated the students to another bus. Chail circle officer, Abhishek Singh, stated that the bus has been seized and the victim's body sent for postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver, he added. Police confirmed that none of the students on board were injured in the incident....
