Dehradun, Oct. 20 -- A special two-day session of the Uttarakhand assembly will be convened in the first week of November to commemorate the silver jubilee of the state's formation. The two-day session of the Vidhan Sabha will be held in Dehradun on November 3 and 4 to highlight the state's achievements across 25 years and outline future development plans. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) approved the state government's request to hold the two-day session. ".............In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh, (Retd.), Governor, Uttarakhand, hereby summon a 'Special Session' of the Fifth Legislative Assembly of the State of Uttarakhand for the year 2025 on 3rd November, 2025 and 4th November, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan, Dehradun for the year 2025," a notification issued by the Vidhan Sabha secretary Hem Chandra Pant stated. Meanwhile, preparations are underway across the state for the state foundation day celebrations on November 9, when the state is completing 25 years of its formation On October 13, the Uttarakhand cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, had authorized the Chief Minister to call a special Assembly session ahead of the state's silver jubilee. In August, the truncated monsoon session of the state assembly was held in the summer capital, Gairsain, in Chamoli district. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on October 13 said, "As this is our silver jubilee year, our state has progressed through several ups and downs over the past 25 years. It has been a long journey of experiences and development since the formation of the state. All these aspects will be discussed in the assembly, which is why it has been decided to convene a two-day session." Suryakant Dhasmana, senior vice president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UKPCC), said, "Let us sit together and reflect on what we were, what we are, and what we will become. As the state completes 25 years of its formation and celebrates its silver jubilee, both the ruling and opposition parties, along with the people, should introspect. We must remember the expectations we had before the creation of the state and the dreams of those who struggled, sacrificed their lives, faced lathi charges, and went to jail for this cause. We should also assess how far we have come in realizing the vision of development over the past 25 years." He further said, "We must deliberate on how effectively we have been able to stop the migration of our unemployed youth and improve education and healthcare facilities in remote areas. I welcome the decision to convene the two-day session, but both ruling and opposition MLAs should be given equal opportunities to speak in the assembly."...
