LUCKNOW, May 19 -- Several parts of the city, including Indira Nagar, Munshipulia and Mahila Polytechnic, remained without electricity for up to six hours over the weekend, leading to widespread inconvenience and protests by residents outside local electricity substations. The longest outage was reported in Indira Nagar, where the supply snapped around 5.45 pm on Saturday and resumed only at 6 am the next day. "We spent the entire night without electricity," said Aman Singh from Sector-14 in Indira Nagar. According to locals, calls to helpline '1912' went unanswered. Residents of Indira Nagar staged a protest outside the substation, demanding immediate restoration and accountability. Power officials said the blackout in Indira Nagar was caused by a fault in an underground cable linked to the Patel Nagar feeder. The repair work was delayed because the damaged cable lay close to a PNG gas pipeline, limiting excavation . Apart from Indira Nagar, Utrethia, Sainik Nagar, Eldeco, Para, and Gyanendra Vihar also reported disruptions.
