SP stages walkout from Vidhan Parishad over law & order
LUCKNOW, Aug. 13 -- Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Vidhan Parishad over what they termed the collapse of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Moving an adjournment motion, SP members Lal Bihari Yadav, Rajendra Chaudhary, Man Singh Yadav, Mukul Yadav, Ashutosh Sinha, Balram Yadav, and others raised concerns over the rising crime graph in the state and demanded a discussion on the pressing issue in the Upper House of the state legislature.
During the admissibility discussion, Man Singh Yadav, Mukul Yadav, Kiran Pal Kashyap and Lal Bihari Yadav alleged that law and order had ceased to exist in UP with criminals having no fear of being caught and punished.
Quoting figures, they also claimed that crime against women had substantially gone up in the state. Lucknow, they said, had emerged as the hotspot of crimes in the recent month.
Leader of the House and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya aggressively countered SP members' allegation, claiming the law and order in the state was perfectly in place.
He admitted to the admission of crimes but said the action was always swift. He reminded the Opposition of what he called the "Jungle Raj" during the SP rule between 2012 and 2017.
Not satisfied with the government's response, all the SP members walked out in protest even before the Leader of the House could end his reply. Maurya said the Samajwadi Party did not have guts to listen to the truth and hence fled the House. Vidhan Parishad chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh rejected the adjournment motion on the matter....
