Lucknow, Feb. 20 -- Finance and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Thursday said that the state government had banned loudspeaker use after 10pm following Supreme Court orders. The minister was responding to Samajwadi Party MLA Kamal Akhtar, who demanded the use of loudspeakers during Ramzan to alert the faithful about the iftar and sehri timings. Khanna acknowledged it was an earlier practice but said today everyone has a watch or mobile phone to know the timings. Akhtar, who raised the issue in the assembly during zero hour, said while the state government had banned loudspeaker use following the Supreme Court order on sound limit, they were being used during various festivals.
