Srinagar, Aug. 14 -- A soldier was killed as the army foiled a suspected infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Churdunda area of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said. The army identified the soldier as Havildar Ankit Kumar, however didn't divulge the details about the circumstances under which the soldier was killed. People familiar with the matter said Kumar was killed during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday when army patrol came under fire. They added that the soldier could have been killed in a border action team (BAT) attack by Pakistan close to an army post. "Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family," army's Chinar Corps posted on X. The incident took place outside the fence where the army has established several posts and is carrying out routine patrolling to avert infiltration from across the LoC. After the soldier was killed, the army launched an operation in the area. Inspector general of police (IGP) Virdhi Kumar Birdi said they are yet to receive operational details about the operation. "As the incident has taken place on the LoC, it will take some time to get clarity on the operation," the IGP told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar when he was asked by reporters whether it was a BAT action in Uri....
