PRAYAGRAJ, May 4 -- A dispute over soil mining turned violent after midnight on Saturday in Kulmai village under Karchana police station limits in Prayagraj, with rival groups allegedly engaging in assault and firing. Police have registered cases against both sides and launched an investigation. According to police, soil excavation for a local brick kiln was underway in the village when an old financial dispute resurfaced between two groups. One faction is led by Pappu Tiwari of Sanjai, while the rival group is headed by Sachin Pandey of Nidouri Kushgarh. The dispute escalated late Saturday night into a direct clash, with both sides allegedly resorting to assault and firing. Police said an SUV belonging to one of the factions was targeted during the incident, and five bullet marks were later found on the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle reportedly fled the spot immediately after the firing. The vehicle has since been seized by the police for investigation. Based on a written complaint submitted by Siddhant Tiwari, police registered a case against Sachin Pandey, Mangal Pandey and Surendra Pandey. In a counter complaint filed by Surendra Pandey, a case has been registered against Chakradhar Tiwari, Siddharth Tiwari and Ankit. On receiving information, ACP (Karchana) Sunil Kumar Singh reached the village on Sunday morning with police to assess the situation and restore order. Several people from both sides were detained.
