Smuggler held with 52 kg ganja in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, March 30 -- In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) unit in Prayagraj arrested a suspected smuggler on Friday in the Naini area. The accused, identified as Vikas Pal, was found in possession of 52 kg of illegal ganja, estimated to be worth around Rs.26 lakh, police said.
According to officials, Vikas Pal, son of Ramavatar Pal and a resident of Saidpur under Kareli police station limits, was apprehended on Arail Bandh Road in Naini. Police also recovered a numberless Hyundai Aura car, a mobile phone, and Rs.400 in cash from his possession.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that the consignment had been handed over to him by a man from Kaushambi for further supply. He also stated that the same person had removed the vehicle's number plate. The consignment was allegedly being transported for delivery in the Koraon area, officials added.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Naini police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
The operation was led by ANTF Prayagraj in-charge Inspector Satyendra Pradhan, along with other police personnel. Teams from Naini police station and the ANTF surveillance unit from Lucknow also assisted in the operation. htc...
