Mirzapur, Nov. 6 -- : Six pilgrims, including two minors, were killed after being hit by an express train while crossing railway tracks at Chunar Junction in Mirzapur district on Wednesday morning, police said. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Union minister Anupriya Patel, who represents Mirzapur in Parliament, have expressed grief over the incident. The state government announced a compensation of Rs2 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased in the accident. According to Indian Railways, the 13309 Chopan-Prayagraj passenger train had arrived at platform number four. Some passengers disembarked on the track side instead of using the foot overbridge. At the same time, train number 12311 Netaji Express passed through the main line and struck at least six of these passengers. Railway officials, RPF, GRP and the district administration reached the spot and began relief operations. Five of the deceased were residents of Mirzapur, while one was from Sonbhadra. Family members said they were heading to Chunar Ghat to take a dip in the Ganga on Kartik Purnima. Sub divisional magistrate of Chunar Rajesh Verma said the deceased included Savita (28) years, Sadhna (16), both residents of Khamariha village in Mirzapur, Shivkumari (12) years, Anju Devi (20), all residents of different localities in Mirzapur and Kalavati Dev, resident of Karma area of district Sonbhadra. The railway administration has appealed to passengers to use designated platforms and foot overbridges and not cross the tracks under any circumstances....
