PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 1 -- Efforts for the construction of a new six-lane bridge parallel to the existing New Yamuna Bridge in Prayagraj has gained further momentum. The proposed bridge, estimated to cost Rs.620 crore, will be 1543.05-metre long. The budget proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval following a detailed district-level survey, said district officials. "The survey work for the bridges approved by the cabinet during Mahakumbh has been completed. The proposal has already been sent to the government. Some projects are likely to begin in the near future," said Prayagraj DM Manish Kumar Verma. This project is part of the broader infrastructure push approved by the state cabinet during the Mahakumbh-2025 preparations. In a cabinet meeting held in January this year, approval was granted to four new bridges in Prayagraj to improve connectivity including the proposed parallel bridge. The new bridge will feature six lanes- four for vehicular traffic and two dedicated footpaths. UP Bridge Corporation has been assigned the responsibility to construct it. Once the budget receives final approval, the work is expected to commence immediately, officials added. Proposals have also been sent for a four-lane bridge to be constructed from Salori to Hetapatti, 3,660 meters in length; a four-lane bridge on the Daraganj-Jhunsi route of 2,340.80-metre in length; and a four-lane bridge from Karaillabagh to Madauka, 1,170.40-metre in length....
