Six held in Bareilly for smuggling 4 kg opium
Meerut, Oct. 27 -- Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) exposed a major interstate opium smuggling network operating from Bareilly and arrested six traffickers, officials said. They added 4 kg of opium, worth Rs 20 lakh in the international market, was recovered during a late-night operation on Saturday.
According to STF officials, the operation was carried out near Vijay Dwar. Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted two suspicious vehicles and, upon inspection, recovered the contraband, two cars, six mobile phones, and Rs.4,340 in cash.
The arrested accused were identified as Tejram (30), Ankit Singh (27), and Sher Singh (33), all residents of Aonla in Bareilly; Chandan Yadav (21) from Itkhori, Jharkhand; Mantu Kumar (19) from Chauparan, Jharkhand; and Rajkumar alias Devansh Verma (22) from Subhash Nagar, Bareilly.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Chandan and Mantu, both hailing from Jharkhand, procured opium from a supplier named Sudesh Yadav of Ranchi and brought it to Bareilly. Sher Singh and Tejram were responsible for distributing the narcotics in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, and several areas within Bareilly district.ASP Abdul Qadir, in charge of the STF's Bareilly unit, said that efforts were underway to apprehend the gang's kingpin, Sudesh Yadav, who has been identified as the main supplier. "The network was systematically channelling opium from Jharkhand to northern states through Bareilly. The arrested individuals have provided crucial leads about their operations," he stated. A case has been registered against all the accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Cantt police station....
