Six held for theft at residence of temple mahant
VARANASI, May 22 -- Police arrested three criminals and their three aides involved in the theft at the Tulsi Ghat residence of Sankatmochan Temple mahant Prof Vishwambhar Nath Mishra, in Kodopur during wee hours on Wednesday.
The criminals were arrested after an encounter by a joint team of SOG and police.
Along with jewellery and cash, pistols and cartridges have been recovered from the miscreants.
DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banswal said that all the miscreants arrested are the current and former servants of Prof Mishra.
Arrested accused were identified as Rakesh Dubey, 36, Vicky Tiwari, 29, and Jitendra Singh alias Golu Patel, all residents of Kaimur, Bihar. They were arrested during the encounter.
Their accomplices have been identified as Shani Kumar Madheshiya, 22, of Deoria, Atul Shukla, 26, of Fatehpur, and Dilip Choubey, 29, said the deputy commissioner of police Kashi Zone.
Late night, the SOG in-charge found out through surveillance that the miscreants who committed theft at the house of Prof Mishra were present in Kodopur of Ramnagar police station area and were dividing the stolen jewellery. When the police team surrounded them, the miscreants opened fire.
In the retaliatory action by the police, Vicky Tiwari and Jitendra Singh alias Golu and Rakesh Dubey were injured after being shot in the leg....
