AGRA, Nov. 21 -- Six people were arrested for allegedly murdering a 70-year-old 'sadhvi' (lady seer) in 2024 and selling her property in Vrindavan using forged documents. All six accused were produced in court and subsequently sent to jail, according to a press statement issued by the Mathura police media cell on Thursday. Chandramukhi Devi, also known as Chitra Dasi, had gone missing on December 21, 2024 from her home in Vrindavan's Gaushala Nagar. Although her brother followed up on the case, no concrete progress was made and the matter gradually faded from attention. On November 15, Mahant Ladli Dass in Vrindavan raised the issue with Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar, who then ordered immediate action. A case was registered at Vrindavan police station under sections 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 305, 140(1), 352, 351(2) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against named accused Abhishek (26), Vijay Singh (44), Vakil Mohammad (36), Mohd Arif (36), Omkar Singh (37) and Vikas (24), all residents of Mathura. The accused were arrested from Gurukul Road in Vrindavan. During the interrogation led by assistant superintendent of police Mathura Saneep Singh, it was revealed that one of the accused, Abhishek, was operating a gym in the basement at the back of the house owned by deceased Chandramukhi Devi. Abhishek had fallen into heavy debt and discussed his financial conditions with his co-accused Vikas. The duo then conspired to kill Chandramukhi Devi. The accused allegedly killed the sadhavi and cremated her at KC Ghat in Vrindavan, following which they broke into her house and stole the property sale deed in her husband's name, along with her Aadhar card, PAN card and other documents. They then fabricated additional documents, including a forged will, and fraudulently sold the house, the press statement added....
