Dehradun, Nov. 24 -- The state police has formally registered a case against six people accused of allegedly luring young men from the state into Myanmar, where they were held captive and forced to work in cybercrime rings allegedly run by foreign syndicates, senior police officers said on Sunday. The accused were identified as brothers Sunil Kumar and Ashok, as well as Pinky, all from Jaspur, Nirav Choudhary, from Kashipur, Pradeep from Kashipur and Dhananjay from Mumbai. The case was registered based on testimonies given by nine young men from Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar, who were rescued from Myanmar and returned to India earlier this month, said special task force officers. The men alleged they were confined to KK Park area of Myawaddy city in the neighbouring city, and coerced into working in a cybercrime ring. According to senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar, the trafficking network functioned through Indian agents who allegedly contacted victims via Telegram, WhatsApp and phone calls. "These agents allegedly collected large sums of money from the youths, arranged Thailand visas, and facilitated their illegal movement into Myanmar. Flight tickets, visas and all required documents were provided digitally. From Bangkok, the victims were taken across rivers, forests and mountains into KK Park in Myawaddy," Bhullar said. Once inside Myanmar, the youths were reportedly confined in buildings run by Chinese-operated cybercrime syndicates, he said. "They were trained to conduct cybercrimes, including mobile number tracing and online fraud, using multiple applications and websites," Bhullar said. He said that after their return, the rescued youths were separately questioned at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Kumaon Range, Rudrapur, before being reunited with their families. Based on the investigation enquiry, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act, he added. "Separate human trafficking cases have already been filed against accused Sunil Kumar at Jaspur police station and against accused Nirav Choudhary at Cyber Crime Police Station, Surat, Gujarat. Both have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. More arrests are expected as the investigation continues," he said....
