Six arrested, Rs.42 lakh Hawala cash recovered
VARANASI, April 2 -- The Kotwali Police in Varanasi arrested six accused in connection with the codeine cough syrup case and recovered Rs 42 lakh hawala cash, three currency-counting machines, 10 mobile phones, and two bags, police said on Wednesday.
Those arrested were identified as Ashok, 22, of Delhi, Mohit Saraswa 25, Ram Avtar 33, Girdhari, 20, all three residents of Dungargarh area of Bikaner, in Rajasthan; Santosh Giri, 44 of Ghazipur; Om Prakash Kharwar, 51, of Ballia, said a police officer.
A police officer said that it came to light that Shubham Jaiswal's close associate, Vaibhav Jaiswal, was providing funds obtained from cough syrup to his associates through hawala. Police detained and interrogated Vaibhav Jaiswal, leading to the arrest of six other accused linked to this hawala network....
