SIT formed to probe into Tripura student murder case: Police
Dehradun, Dec. 31 -- A special investigation team (SIT) was formed to investigate the Tripura student murder case amid outrage across the country over allegations that the attack was "racially motivated", police said on Tuesday.
Anjel Chakma, a resident of Agartala who was pursuing MBA at a private university in Uttarakhand, was attacked with a knife in Dehradun allegedly after he objected to racial slurs hurled at him and his brother Michael on December 9, police said. Anjel sustained grievous injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he died on December 26.
The cause of the victim's death, as per postmortem report, is grievous injuries caused to his neck and head, police said.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh addressing a presser at his office in Dehradun said, "To probe the matter from all angles, a district-level SIT has been constituted. Our SOG team has gathered footage of the CCTV cameras and is being examined."
Meanwhile, the police have increased the reward from Rs.25,000 to Rs.1 lakh for the arrest of the absconding accused....
