PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 16 -- A two-member SIT team formed by the government has begun investigations into the case of encroaching upon land belonging to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and a warehouse to be built for EVMs. On Saturday, the housing commissioner, accompanied by inspector general Dr Balkar Singh, arrived in the city and conducted an investigation in Mariadih. DM Manish Kumar Verma accompanied the team. Two members of the SIT team arrived in Prayagraj on Saturday and assessed the situation on the spot. They enquired about the time the land mafia started the illegal plotting and how this negligence occurred. Zaid Khalid, a close associate of slain mafiosi Atiq and Ashraf, along with his brother Jasim Ahmed, and close associates Rahil Siddiqui, Mahmood Akhtar, Abu Zaid, Dilshad, and Dhirendra Pratap Singh, had encroached upon 22 acres of land in Mariadih and Rasulpur Kashipur villages. This land was given to the ATS to establish a unit. A warehouse for EVMs was also proposed to be built there. On learning about it district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma ordered an investigation. The team investigated, and the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) demolished the illegal encroachment. An FIR was also filed on October 16, under the direction of SDM (Sadar) Abhishek Kumar Singh. The government took cognizance of this major incident and formed an SIT.
