Dehradun/Haldwani, Jan. 17 -- A high-level special investigation team (SIT) constituted to probe into the alleged suicide of a farmer from Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar formally began its investigation on Friday. The SIT reached the ITI police station in Udham Singh Nagar and started its investigation into the matter, the state police media cell said in a press release. "The investigation is being carried forward through the examination of the case diary and other records. The SIT is also reviewing the deceased's post-mortem report, mobile phone, and other documentary evidence collected from the Kathgodam police station in Nainital (under whose jurisdiction the farmer allegedly committed suicide)," the release stated. It added that the deceased farmer's mobile phone and the firearm used in the incident are being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination. Meanwhile, the SIT's technical team has begun a detailed examination of the emails sent by the deceased. "The emails contained certain allegations made by the deceased against various local people and police officers/personnel," the release said. Director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth said the SIT is conducting a fair, transparent and thorough examination of all facts and evidence related to the case. The five-member SIT is headed by inspector general (IG) of special task force (STF), Nilesh Anand Bharne. Apart from the SIT probe, a magisterial inquiry led by Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat has also been ordered into the incident. On Friday, US Nagar SSP Manikant Mishra, who was named in the video recorded by the farmer before his death, appeared before Kumaon commissioner at the latter's camp office in Haldwani. According to the officials privy to the matter, the commissioner registered the SSP's statement. Rawat on Tuesday issued notices to the SSP, other policemen and private individuals whose names were taken by the deceased farmer in the video recorded before his death. Another accused in the case, Sukhwant Singh Pannu, a resident of ITI Kashipur, also appeared before the commissioner. On Thursday, former ITI SHO Kundan Rautela, Paiga outpost in-charge Prakash Bisht, SDM Abhay Pratap Singh, tehsildar Pankaj Chandola, and the sub-registrar appeared before the commissioner and recorded their statements. Commissioner Rawat said, "The investigation into the matter is underway. A detailed report will be submitted to the government for further action."
