Sisters killed in landslide; 3 family members injured
Meerut, Aug. 28 -- Tragedy struck a family in Uttar Pradesh during their pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi, when a massive landslide on the Katra route buried them under debris. Two women-one a newlywed from Khekra village in Baghpat, and the other her sister from Mawana in Meerut-lost their lives, while their husbands and a young daughter were seriously injured.
Mayank Goyal, a resident of Chhota Bazaar in Khekra, had set out for Vaishno Devi on August 25 along with his wife, Chandni; his brother-in-law, Amit, from Mawana; Amit's wife, Neera; and their 10-year-old daughter, Vidhi. During their journey, a sudden landslide struck the pilgrimage path near Katra, trapping all five family members under the rubble.
Local administration teams, aided by volunteers, rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. All five victims were pulled out and taken to a hospital. However, doctors declared Chandni and Neera dead on arrival, while Mayank, Amit and Vidhi are undergoing treatment.

Distraught and severely injured, Mayank has been inconsolable after losing his wife. The Jammu administration has officially confirmed the deaths of both women and has notified their families in Baghpat and Meerut.
Back in Mawana, the grief is profound. Ashok Verma, Amit's father, shared that his son, 40, daughter-in-law Neera, 36, and granddaughter Vidhi, 10, had left for the pilgrimage on Monday afternoon, boarding a train from Delhi. Later, they were joined by Amit's brother-in-law and sister-in-law from Khekra. "We got a call this morning about the tragedy, but could not get many details. We only know that Amit and Vidhi are injured," he said....
