Lucknow, Nov. 23 -- Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa on Saturday directed municipal commissioners to set up helpdesks in municipal offices and organise camps in urban areas to assist voters in filling the enumeration forms during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He also directed district election officers (DEOs) to train, encourage and boost the morale of booth level officers (BLOs) deployed for the distribution and collection of enumeration forms. Reviewing the progress of SIR at a meeting with divisional commissioners, district election officers and municipal commissioners through video conferencing, he directed officers to expedite the exercise. On Friday, action was taken against officers, supervisors and BLOs in various districts for alleged negligence in electoral roll revision work. The DEOs had lodged FIR, suspended and served notices against officers, supervisors and BLOs over delay in distribution of enumeration forms and slow digitisation works. Till Saturday, 2.18 crore (14.12%) enumeration forms were digitised. Approximately 20% to 30% of the forms have been digitised in some districts, including Chitrakoot, Auraiya, Firozabad, Moradabad and Saharanpur. The CEO directed all divisional commissioners and district election officers to regularly monitor the SIR work in their areas. The personnel working at district contact centers (DCCs) should be fully trained and familiar with the entire SIR process, he said. Telephone lines should be available at these centres to answer calls and resolve enquiries promptly, he added. All district officials should have their X accounts marked with a gray tick, he said. A gray tick on an X account indicates an official government account. There should be strict monitoring of those spreading misleading and negative news on social media, he said, adding that officers should respond to such misleading and inaccurate information immediately....
