SIR: BLOs to visit households in Varanasi from today
Varanasi, Nov. 4 -- The district administration has finalised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
Preparation, training, and printing of counting forms was fixed from October 28 to November 3, 2025. BLOs (Booth Level Officers) will visit households from November 4 to December 4 to distribute enumeration forms. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 9, with the filing of claims and objections open until January 8, 2026. Hearings, verifications, and decisions on these claims will be completed by January 31, and the final electoral roll will be published on February 7, 2026.
Under the intensive revision drive, BLOs will go door-to-door to distribute and collect forms. Voters born before July 1, 1987, whose names appear in the 2003 voter list, will need to submit only the enumeration form and proof from that list. Those born before July 1, 1987, but not listed in 2003, must provide valid documents proving their date or place of birth.
For voters born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, proof of their own and their parents' date and place of birth is required.
Those born after December 2, 2004, must furnish documents establishing both their and their parents' date and place of birth.
Valid documents include government-issued identity cards, pension orders, birth certificates, passports, educational certificates, residence certificates, caste certificates, Aadhaar cards, or entries from the National Citizen Register or family registers.
District election officer Satyendra Kumar said the exercise will be conducted as per the directives of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise for updating the electoral list will commence on Tuesday following the completion of a day-long training workshop held on Monday at the Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium. The session was chaired by District Magistrate (DM) Deepak Meena and attended by sector, zonal, and related officers from the Pipraich (321), Gorakhpur Rural (323), and Gorakhpur City (322) Assembly constituencies.During the workshop, detailed discussions and training were conducted on various aspects of election preparedness. DM Deepak Meena described elections as the "biggest festival of democracy."
The DM also conducted a projector-based presentation, providing practical demonstrations and explaining each component of the SIR process. He emphasized that knowledge of the exact geographical location and accessibility of polling centers is crucial to prevent last-minute complications on polling day.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will begin across Kanpur district on Tuesday, with the focus on enrolling new voters who will turn 18 by January 1, 2026.
District officials said 3,206 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed for the exercise. Each BLO will visit households thrice-first to distribute Form 3, then to collect it, and finally to verify any additions or corrections.
The forms, embedded with QR codes, will carry voter details based on the 2003 electoral roll to streamline verification.
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh urged all eligible citizens, particularly first-time voters, to participate actively in the drive to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion.
The preparatory phase, including training and printing of forms, was completed between October 28 and November 3. Door-to-door verification will continue till December 4, followed by the reorganisation of polling stations.
The draft roll will be published on December 9, 2025, with claims and objections accepted until January 8, 2026. These will be resolved by January 31, and the final list will be released on February 7, 2026.
