Siddharth Mishra, Sneha Singh hog limelight in b'minton
LUCKNOW, Oct. 26 -- Siddharth Mishra and Sneha Singh from Lucknow kept the host city's challenge alive in the singles events, securing their places in the semi-finals of the UP State Senior Badminton Championship, at the UP Badminton Academy here on Saturday. In the men's singles quarter-final, Siddharth Mishra defeated top seed Siddhant Salar of Lakhimpur 21-16, 21-18.
Meanwhile, in the women's singles, Sneha Singh caused an upset by defeating second seed Shivangi Singh of North Eastern Railway in a tough match 21-10, 14-21, 21-12, while Amolika Singh of the UP Badminton Academy secured her place in the last four by defeating Kajal Panwar of Hapur 21-16, 21-19. In the mixed doubles quarter-finals of the championship, Kunwar Shivang and Sujata Singh defeated top seeded duo of Pradeep Chaudhary and Sneha Singh 21-15, 21-17, and Daksh Gautam and Sonali Singh registered an upset victory by defeating second seeds Ansh Gaur and Simran Chaudhary 21-14, 21-11. In the women's doubles quarter-final, Rama Singh and Sonali Singh defeated Anupama and Shweta Raj 21-12, 21-9.
Lucknow'S Rudrap Pratap Pandey, a former student of Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, will participate in the 23rd International Masters Athletics to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Rudrap Pratap Pandey, who represented Uttar Pradesh in the national junior and senior championships in the 1980s, will participate in the 5000-meter race walk in the men's 60+ age group....
