PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 27 -- A sub-inspector (SI) posted at the Women's Police Station in Pratapgarh was killed on Sunday morning after a speeding dumper truck hit his motorcycle and ran over him near Sarai Virbhadra on the city bypass. The driver fled the spot after the accident, police said. According to police, S-I Mahanand Tripathi (56), a resident of Sardhua village in Chitrakoot, was on his way to Antu for case investigation around 9.30 am when the accident occurred. A dumper truck loaded with cement bricks, coming from the opposite direction, collided with his motorcycle. Tripathi fell onto the road, and the truck's rear wheels ran over his head before the driver fled the scene. Upon receiving information from passersby, Medical College Police Outpost In-charge Akhilesh Pratap, Shahar Kotwali SHO Neeraj Yadav, and CO (City) Prashant Raj Hudda arrived at the scene. The body was taken to the medical college hospital and later sent for a postmortem examination. According to police officials, the dumper was traced and seized with the help of CCTV footage. A case has been filed against the unidentified driver, and further investigation is in progress. Tripathi joined the police force in 1988 as a constable and was serving as a sub-inspector at the time. He had been posted in Pratapgarh for around two and a half years and was recently transferred from district court security duty to the Women's Police Station. On receiving the news, his family immediately traveled to Pratapgarh. Following the postmortem, the body was taken to the police lines, where Tripathi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. It was then sent to his native village for the last rites....
